I love fall. I love the end of summer and the beginning of routine. Not that there wasn’t a lot of routine this summer, but when it comes to daily schedules, or any form of organization or routine, those things just seem to sort of take a back seat during the summer months.
Letting your hair down.
Waking up when you want. Waking up when the kids wake you up. Sipping on sweet tea on the deck at 9:30 at night, with the sun still out but beginning to slowly fade.
Summertime and a bit of a carefree mentality seem to go hand in hand. But before I get lost in my memories of sun and summer, let me get back to right now.
Fall. Back to school. Back to keeping track of every appointment, and school function. Back to having a set routine to get homework done. No more whenever we want to eat dinner times. And guess what? I LOVE IT! Anybody with me?
I am a list maker. A notebook lover. An organization freak. (Although you wouldn’t necessarily see that from the looks of some of my cupboards…Ahem.) But really, I am in love with routine. A schedule. A plan. Although whenever my husband asks me what the plan is for the day…I get semi-annoyed. A part of me wants other people to think that I’m more fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants than I really am.
So in getting all geared up for fall and all that it brings, beside PSL’s, I bought myself a new planner. I did some research, as I’m pretty picky about what my planner holds. I didn’t used to be. But if I’m going to be spending money, I want to make sure I can fit EVERYTHING in it I need.
I’ve tried using a few online schedulers and calendars, but I am just a bit old fashioned. I really love being able to write things down. Hold my to do’s in my hot little hands. It may work for you, and I’ve tried to jump on the paperless bandwagon, but this one thing I just can’t get down.
The planner I got is called the home Executive. It runs the duration of the school year and through the end of the next year. So, August 2015-December 2016. If you click on the link above it will take you to it and cover all its great features.
For me, a few things I love about this planner are:
- It’s pretty. (call me petty, but if I’m going to be in this every day, sometimes multiple times, I want to like what I’m opening.) Aesthetics. I appreciate beautiful things. So there.
- I love how it corresponds with the school year.
- Stickers. I normally don’t have time to use them, but it’s fun for when I do have some extra time.
- Pockets. I do wish there were more throughout the planner, but the two they have are helpful.
- Meal planing box at the end of every day.
- A spot for everyone. Everyone has their own column to write each persons activity for that day. Which let’s be real. I write for them.
- Quotes at the beginning of every month.
- Notes section at the back.
There’s more, but these are some of my favorite. I have looked all over our local shops, and online, and have yet to find THE perfect planner for me. Maybe I’ll just have to design on of my own at some point… 😉 But for now, this one does the trick for us.
Here’s a few pictures of the one I have at home.
An oldie, but a goodie quote.
I would have snapped a picture of the notes section, but my fantasy football picks are back there…and I don’t want my hubby sneaking any peeks. 😉
So now that I’ve shown you how I line up my life, er try to line up my life, how about you? How do you all stay organized and sane? I would love to hear back from you!
And while we’re on the subject of trying to line up our lives, I thought I would take a second to remind myself and the rest of us that, as much as we plan, structure and even write it in ink…WE ARE NOT IN CONTOL. God is so great at reminding me of that. I can have it all written out and planned…and then I’ll have to scratch it all out the very next day, or even that same day! Life happens. Life is not something we have planned, but something He has orchestrated for us to participate in. And I participate in a lot of changes! When was the last time you got knocked off track and had to make some adjustments or scratch out your planned events? Tell me about it 🙂
And as you go about your days, Living Out His plan, remember this;
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. ~Proverbs 19:21
